When home stops feeling like the easy place

Families rarely fall apart over one big thing. It is the accumulation - the topic nobody can raise, the two people who only speak through a third, the door that closes a little harder each year. Everyone is trying. Everyone is exhausted. And because it is family, nobody feels allowed to say it out loud. Family counselling is where it gets said out loud, safely, with someone in the room who is not on anyone's side.

You might recognise some of these

Conversations turn into arguments within minutes, or are avoided entirely
Parents and adult children who love each other and cannot talk for ten minutes
Teenagers who have gone quiet, or gone somewhere you cannot reach
In-law tension that the whole household is quietly organised around
Siblings in conflict - over money, property, care of parents, or old wounds
A separation or divorce that the children are absorbing
One person is the problem - and everyone is tired of that story
What family counselling means
Not a blame roomA guided space to understand patterns, rebuild safety and practise new ways of relating.

What is family counselling?

Family counselling - often called family therapy - treats the family as a system rather than a collection of individuals, on the simple premise that the trouble usually lives in the space between people rather than inside any one of them. In a confidential, structured space, we look at how the family communicates, where roles have become rigid, and what everyone is protecting.

It is not about identifying who is at fault. Every family has a story about who the difficult one is, and that story is almost never the real thing. My job is to make it safe enough for the real thing to surface - and then to help you build a different way of being together.

Who is family counselling for?

Parents and adult children stuck in a cycle of conflict, guilt or distance
Families with a teenager who has withdrawn, or where the household is walking on eggshells
Joint families and households navigating in-law dynamics and boundaries
Siblings in conflict over property, money, or the care of parents
Families adjusting to separation, divorce or remarriage
Families coping with illness, addiction, a diagnosis or bereavement

Anyone who wants their family to be a place they can breathe again.

Some or All

No. It is rarely all-or-nothing. Sometimes it is a parent and a child, sometimes two siblings, sometimes a couple and one in-law, sometimes the full household.

One Person Can Shift It

If the rest of your family will not come at all, start on your own. One person understanding their role in a pattern can genuinely change the pattern.

We decide together who needs to be in which conversation, and it can change as the work develops.

How I work

I hold a balanced, judgement-free space where every person in the room feels respected - including the one everyone else came to talk about. I do not take sides and I do not allocate blame; it is the fastest way to lose a family's trust and it does not help anybody. My approach is warm, practical and experiential, drawing where it helps on breathwork, expressive work and other tools from a holistic toolkit. Respect, active listening, honesty, encouragement and complete confidentiality apply to everyone equally.

Family counselling FAQs

In practice, very little - the terms are used interchangeably. Both look at the family as a system rather than treating one person as the problem.
Yes, and it is a common place to start. Understanding your own role in a family pattern changes how you respond, and that alone changes the dynamic. Others often join once they see it is not a trial.
No. If I did, everyone else would stop talking - and rightly so. My role is to make it safe enough for each person to be heard, which is usually what is actually missing.
Sometimes, and sometimes not. It depends on age, on what is happening, and on what would genuinely help them rather than expose them. We will decide that together, carefully.
Yes. Confidential online sessions are available across India and overseas - particularly useful when family members are in different cities.
Confidentiality is a core principle of my practice, within professional and legal limits. We will agree clearly at the start how information is handled between joint and individual sessions, so nobody is caught out.

Home can feel easier than this

You do not need everyone on board to begin. One conversation is enough to start. Whenever you are ready, I am here.
